Con: Iraq War

Dems blocking military funds = Bush's Iraq war plan, 'last resort'

Republicans are refuting the Democrats' ability to use money to block the troop surge. Democrats say they will only block the use of funds as a last resort. Sounds familiar. Bush said he would only use the military in Iraq as a last resort and pushed a resolution through Congress saying as much. Sorry Republicans, you can't complain now that the tables are turned.

Most Democrats, including Hillary Clinton made speeches in 2002 about how she would only support the president in military action in Iraq only if all other avenues failed. We all know that the president didn't give the other avenues even a slim chance of working. Now Democrats are in control, voted in to the majority by the citizens of the USA who want Iraq policy to change. However, Bush does not want to change the policy, he's just going to pour more fire onto the flames. Its seems only fair that the Democrats, who are now in control of Congress, should have a last resort plan to stop him.

Democrats have held out for other avenues to work much longer than Bush gave Iraq. However, if the president does not read the writing on the wall or voice of the people, the Democrats should have the ability to stop the surge.

Congress is the only one who can declare war. They did so when they passed the resolution in 2002. However, the conditions, on the president's end of the resolution, were not met in good faith. Now with civil war breaking out in Iraq, the president won't admit he made a mistake. Congress has the right and the duty to stop him before the situation deteriorates even more.
